What does a Copywriter do?
You’ve been sweating it out at the keyboard for days – hacking away at the keys and getting nowhere – it’s time to partner with a professional freelance copywriter and turn your word woes into powerful prose. But what does a copywriter do? And what’s it like to work with one online?
You’re a professional – I’m a professional, and I don’t want there to be any unnecessary surprises along the way. That is why I try to work with the utmost accountability and transparency so that we can get the formalities out of the way and focus on creating phenomenal copy.
Here’s what you can expect when you work with me:
Step 1 : Tell me about it
Tell me about your business/ project by filling out my contact form or shooting me an email. Give me as much information as possible regarding your needs and the writing services you are interested in. Be sure to include your website link, previous drafts, and any related collateral or material. The more information you provide, the more accurate my estimate and the faster I can hit the ground running.
Step 2: Let’s make a deal
After I’ve received your inquiry, I’ll respond within 24 hours to clarify any lingering details and to provide a quote that includes an estimated timeline and cost. I’m happy to communicate via email, the phone, or skype – whichever channel helps you and I connect in the most efficient way possible. You tell me about your business & project, I’ll tell you how I can help, and you’ll let me know if you’d like to go out with me again.
If you’re onboard, together we’ll come to an agreement regarding project scope, parameters, due date, and investment. We’ll discuss confidentiality agreements, non-competes, ghostwriting contracts, and all other red tape that keeps you (and me) safe and sound. Once we’ve both signed on the dotted line, I’ll begin wordsmithing your project. (Some large-scale projects require an initial payment of 35% before work begins)
Step 3: Creation & communication
During the writing process, we’ll stay in close communication as I dive deeper you’re your project. On my side of the fence I’ll be researching, concepting, writing, and revising and then pass the ball over to you by handing off the first draft and invoice.
Step 4: Revise and repeat
Once you receive the first draft of your project, take time to review it and get back to me within 5 business days for any requested revisions. My standard project quote includes two rounds of revisions and any additional revisions will be billed at my hourly rate. Some clients don’t request any changes, others ask for tweaks here and there – all are guaranteed satisfaction. If your project is ongoing (for example editorial management, content marketing, copy consulting, etc.) then you are entitled to as many revisions, tweaks, twists, and turns as your heart desires.
Step 5: Final draft & feedback
As you relish in the creative powerhouse that is your finished project, I’ll kindly ask for your feedback to help me better serve each and every client that wanders into my inbox. I may even check back a few weeks down the road to see what a difference your new copy has made to your business.
You’re the expert on your business. I’m the expert on producing copy that moves – that compels conversion, inspires loyalty, positions brands, harvests revenue, and generally makes you you’re your business) awesome. I’ll bear the creative brunt of the labor, but together we’ll collaborate closely to identify your key objectives and uncover what makes your target audience tick – and click.
There are hoards – hoards – of so-called “copywriters” vying for your business online. But if you’re looking to partner with a creative writer who will be a true team player in your business, then my virtual office doors are open and I hope you’ll step inside so we can get started.
